How Truck Drivers Can Avoid Weight Gain

There are hefty truck drivers. There are thin ones. What can truck drivers do to keep weight off?

Well, the trucking lifestyle isn’t an easy one. You may be away from home for days or weeks at a time. You may only encounter fast food joints and vending machines full of sugary sodas and snacks. That said, there are some things you can do to keep the weight off…

All Day Gyms

In many areas, there are 24/7 gyms where you join up and can have access to workout equipment at any time. Anytime Fitness is known for this: https://www.anytimefitness.com/ Also, many hotels have gyms or pools where you can work out– and this would probably be best in the morning, after you’ve just woken up from a long night’s sleep.

Work it Off On the Clock

Do you ever do driver assisted loads? If so, that’s a great way to exercise while on-the-clock. Pull flatbeds where you have to strap loads down and climb up and down the trailer. When you’re at a rest stop, take a long walk or jog around the parking lot to get your legs moving and your heart pumping.

Condiments and Snacks Add Up

As for what you eat, try using less condiments. For instance, instead of using three ketchup packets for your burger and fries, use just one per meal. And if you get a salad, use half the dressing they give you on it. Eat blueberries instead of M&Ms. Snack on carrot sticks or celery sticks. Try to get off of Red Bull or other energy drinks. For every can of soda pop you drink, make sure to drink the equivalent amount of water, and, if possible, cut down on drinks like Coke and Pepsi.

Weight Loss Programs

Many truck drivers join Weight Watchers and it helps them keep track of their food/drink intake daily. Ultimately, they can lose some weight by just staying aware of how much they’re consuming each day!

Fresh Pool

Finally, when possible, pack your own meals instead of buying store-bought ones. This way you control how much salt is on your stuff. And you can control your portion size. The more sugar, salt and fat you consume, the more likely you are to gain weight, so do what you can to cut down on those things.
